Riff Raff - Lowlifer

Despite my initial disappointment that this band has nothing to do with BILLY BRAGG, I thought this EP by Massachusetts' RIFF RAFF (who shares members with THINK I CARE) was good, burly, NYHC-influenced hardcore punk. And I'm not talking paint-by-numbers late-80s youth crew NYHC or basketball-Jersey-wearing thugcore NYHC, I'm talking about the real ideal—early -80s bands like the ABUSED, ANTIDOTE, and United Blood-era. AGNOSTIC FRONT (with a touch of the CRO-MAGS and NEGATIVE APPROACH). Good songwriting and a mix of faster and mid-tempo tracks make this record well worth picking up for fans of the aforementioned bands.

Propagandhi - Supporting Caste

I love Propagandhi. Most people say they like The Weakerthans better. I'd like to punch those people in the face. Hey, I'm not saying The Weakerthans are horrible. I very much enjoy them. Just not as much as I do Propagandhi.

I was not so much stoked when "Potemkin City Lights" came out. In fact I HATED the album when i first listened to it. But it really grew on me and I like that album a lot.

"Supporting Caste" is nothing short of old school Propagandhi. I cannot stop listening to this album. Stoked on picking up the cd and lp versions.

DAMNATION A.D. - No More Dreams of Happy Endings

This record is one of the most miserable and negative albums ever. This was a very influential 90's hardcore band that does not get much credit. They had a really good, original sound and the music reflects the pain in the lyrics. It is a bit dated, but still a great throw-back to the era of 90's 'core and is a must-own.

BLACK FLAG - The Complete 1982 Demo's plus more.

Never officially released, these are Black Flag's demo recordings from the period of time in which they were legally prevented from releasing any new material. Tracks 1-10 are the only recorded material with this lineup: Henry Rollins on vocals, Greg Ginn and Dex Cadena on guitar, Chuck Dukowski on bass, and Chuck Biscuits on drums. Most of the songs were demo versions of tracks that would appear on My War and .

Tracks 11-14 are a session recorded for Radio Tokyo in '84 and feature Rollins and Ginn, but with Kira Roesller on bass and Bill Stevenson on drums.

If you've never heard this shit, it's some of the best Black Flag shit I've ever heard, a perfect blend of their early ferocity and later experimentation. It's also the only recorded material the band has with Biscuits on drums.

Groundwork - Discography

I first got into Groundwork when i bought their split with Unbroken years and years ago. Groundowrk was a inflential hardcore band from the early 90's, who's members went on to form Four Hundred Years and Absinthe.

Groundwork played slow, heavy hardcore with a tendency to get noisy and discordant. Their style wasn't too dissimilar to Unbroken's Life. Love. Regret, but with the noisy and experimental elements of Rorschach or Deadguy included. Definitely ahead of their time.

Wanna know where Backstabbers, Inc. seemingly drew a great deal of inspiration from? This band would be it! A great blend of metal, grind, and hardcore music to come up with something that can appeal to fans of all three genres.

"These boys are from Arkansas and apparently their idea of Southern Hospitality is to rip your face off with their ferocious grind. I'm still trying to figure out what I am going to do without my face.... BURNED UP BLED DRY's brand of core is an equal mixture of aggression and heaviness. Their punishing onslaught of noise pays homage to the blistering devastation of early 80's hate-core but their delivery is far more in the vein of nineties grindcore. One of the most appealing things about the record is the fact that the tunes, while not sacrificing one iota of power, manage to have some (dare I say it?) hooks. Southern Fried power violence?
